Hi, my name’s Sonya. I was born in northern Michigan, one of the most beautiful and picturesque locations in the United States. I graduated from University with degrees in psychology and art history. I then became a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco where I had my first experience teaching English. I have always had a passion for helping others, so teaching was the perfect career for me.
I received my TESOL certificate in 2006 and have had the opportunity to teach in some of the most interesting and wonderful places including Spain, Kazakhstan, China, and Saudi Arabia. I currently live in Fiji where I spend time volunteer teaching in the local village and of course, having fun.
I have taught school children, university students, and professional adults. My experience ranges from 1:1 classes to 70 students in a classroom, specializing in oral, general, and business English, as well as IELTS exam preparation. As a language learner myself dabbling in more than five languages, I can identify with those who are learning a second language, the struggles as well as the successes. I enjoy getting to know my students and am committed to providing meaningful moments of learning in a fun, creative and active way, whatever their needs and goals might be.
My love of life is reflected in my teaching. From exploring the world, volunteering and coaching sports to adventurous activities such as white water rafting, scuba diving, and skydiving. I take the excitement I have for life and inject it into my teaching.
