Hello, I’m Gareth (not Bale I’m afraid) from Swansea in the UK, which is why I support Swansea City. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy playing football, DJing and travelling, but I enjoy teaching so much that I’ve been doing it since 1995.
My first job was in Egypt and from there I went to Istanbul. My next job was in Thailand where I taught mainly Business English. After a year in Vietnam, teaching very hard-working and friendly students, I spent 15 years in Singapore where I taught and tested IELTS, CPE and Business English for the British Council, and writing and speaking at the National University of Singapore. While there, I also did my Master’s for which I earned a Distinction, to complement my Cambridge University teaching qualifications (CELTA and DELTA).
Since then I’ve spent three summers at Oxford University, which was an amazing experience; I’ve also worked at Birmingham and Dammam Universities, but am now a Senior Trainer in Brunei.
As well as teaching, I’ve had 11 papers published and presented at conferences in Turkey, Myanmar, Cambodia, Australia, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
I use the communicative approach so be prepared to do a lot of speaking. I look forward to teaching you.
