Hello, I’m Gareth (not Bale I’m afraid) from the UK. My hometown is Swansea, which is why I support Swansea City. When I’m not teaching, I enjoy playing football, DJing and travelling, but I enjoy teaching so much that I’ve been doing it since 1995, and if my maths is correct, that’s over 20 years.
My first job was in Egypt and from there I went to Istanbul and still keep in touch with one of my old students. My next job was in Thailand where I taught young Learners and business English, which was a strange mix! After a year in Vietnam, teaching very hard-working and friendly students, I spent 15 years in Singapore where I worked teaching IELTS, CPE and Business English for the British Council, and writing and speaking at the National University of Singapore. In my time there I also did my Master’s for which I earned a Distinction, to complement my Cambridge University teaching qualifications (CELTA and DELTA).
Since then I’ve spent three summers working at Oxford University, which has been an amazing experience; I’ve also spent time working at Dammam University conducting research on language learning, which I am looking forward to passing on to you. I use the communicative approach in teaching so be prepared to do a lot of speaking in our classes. I look forward to teaching you!
