Hello, my name is Jannie and I’m originally from the Netherlands. I grew up surrounded by water, flat landscapes, bicycles and very organized people. Although I love my country, I felt like it was a bit small and I wanted to travel more.
Right after I graduated with a degree in psychology, I went to volunteer in Guatemala for a few months. That was the first time I ever taught English, and it was a great experience. Later, I moved to Sevilla in Spain, not only to enjoy teaching English again, but also to keep practicing the Spanish I had learnt. I ended up staying for 7 years. I soaked up the culture of Andalucía: I learnt the local dances, sampled the local dishes and made some great friends. On a wonderful trip to Indonesia, I met my (now) fiancé and so I moved to Bali to live with him and share a life together.
With the different languages I speak (Dutch, English, Spanish, German, a bit of French and some Indonesian), I know that the best way to get fluent is to immerse yourself in it, preferably by staying in the country for a while to study it and being forced to speak it to the people there. Of course, that’s not always possible. So, the next best thing is private lessons with an experienced teacher! I know the struggles of learning a language; I’m sure I can help you with yours!
